Corcovado Sirena Station Day Tour from Drake Bay

The Corcovado Sirena Station day tour is one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in all of Costa Rica. Departing from Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula, this full-day excursion takes you deep into Corcovado National Park, home to one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on the planet. The destination: Sirena Ranger Station, the beating heart of Corcovado and the best place in the park to spot wildlife up close.

Corcovado National Park is widely considered by National Geographic as the most biologically intense place on Earth. The Sirena Station sits at the confluence of two rivers and the ocean, creating a unique habitat where tapirs, jaguars, scarlet macaws, spider monkeys, and hundreds of other species are regularly spotted. The Corcovado Sirena Station tour gives you direct access to these trails, guided by a certified bilingual naturalist who knows the park inside out.

The humid tropical climate means walking in heat and moisture for extended periods. We recommend being comfortable hiking for several hours with proper footwear.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season from December through April offers the most comfortable weather and best wildlife visibility. The green season from May to November brings lush vegetation and increased wildlife activity, though expect frequent afternoon rains. Each season offers unique advantages for different types of wildlife observation. We operate tours year-round.

What to Bring

Sirena Station vs San Pedrillo: which Corcovado tour to choose

Both stations sit inside Corcovado National Park, but the experience is very different. Sirena Station is in the heart of the park, where two rivers meet, and holds the highest concentration of wildlife. It is the best place to spot tapirs, all four monkey species and, with luck, big cats. The trade off is a longer boat ride from Drake Bay. San Pedrillo is closer, so the boat trip is shorter, and offers beautiful coastal rainforest and a waterfall, but the wildlife density is lower. If your priority is seeing as many animals as possible, choose Sirena. If you prefer a gentler day with less time on the boat, San Pedrillo is a good fit.

Sirena day tour or overnight

The day tour gives you several hours on the Sirena trails and brings you back to Drake Bay by the evening. If you want the very best wildlife activity, at dawn and dusk, the Sirena Station overnight tour lets you sleep inside the park and wake up surrounded by the rainforest. It is the most immersive way to experience Corcovado and the choice for travelers who want to go deeper. Most first time visitors are happy with the full day, but if wildlife is your main goal, the overnight is worth it.
