Sirena vs San Pedrillo: Which Corcovado Tour Should You Choose?

Both ranger stations sit inside Corcovado National Park, both are reached by boat from Drake Bay, and both require a certified guide. But the experience is very different — and choosing the right one can make your trip. Here is the honest comparison we give our own guests.

Sirena vs San Pedrillo at a glance

Choose Sirena if wildlife is your priority

Sirena sits at the confluence of two rivers and the ocean, in the heart of the park. It is simply the best place in Costa Rica to see tapirs, and the only realistic chance most visitors have of spotting a big cat. If this is your one shot at Corcovado and you want to see as many animals as possible, take the Sirena Station day tour — or better, the Sirena overnight, because dawn and dusk are when the forest truly comes alive.

Choose San Pedrillo for wild, untouched rainforest

San Pedrillo never had a human settlement, so its forest is the most pristine in the park. The boat ride is less than half as long, the trails are quieter, and the day ends at a waterfall hidden in the jungle. It is a known puma territory, the landscapes are stunning, and at $95 it is also the most affordable way to visit Corcovado. Families with younger kids and travelers prone to seasickness usually prefer it. See the full San Pedrillo day tour itinerary.

Can I do both?

Yes — many guests combine a San Pedrillo day with a Sirena overnight, or pair Sirena with Caño Island snorkeling for a jungle-plus-ocean trip. Park permits are limited, so we recommend booking at least one month ahead. October the park closes for maintenance.
